“Best Places” Flower Mound TX Real Estate

Money magazine chose Flower Mound, a beautiful city in the center of the Dallas/Fort Worth region as one of the “Best Places to Live” in the USA.  Bordered by Lake Grapevine to the south and Lake Lewisville to the north, residents of homes in Flower Mound appreciate outstanding walking, jogging, and cycling open spaces that link Flower Mound neighborhoods with parks and trails.  The US Dept. of the Interior awarded the city the “Enjoy the Outdoor America” award.

Though Flower Mound real estate offers planned communities, there are also a variety of contemporary loft homes, garden homes, condominiums, and zero-lot line homes in the community.  The average new home cost is $269,000 and average apartment rent is $712.  The Lewisville Independent School District serves most Flower Mound neighborhoods, though boundaries favor the closer schools for families living near borders to the Argyle, Coppell, Denton, and Northwest districts.  However, there are also private schools, community colleges, and universities in the surrounding areas.

Besides the lovely lakes nearby, parts of the picturesque town look out onto pastures of grazing horses and other sections feature rolling hills and lush woods.  A hundred and fifty years ago, the Blackland Prairie and its blue stem grasses and wildflowers forming a 12½-acre mound fifty feet high caught the attention of European settlers, inspiring the name “Flower Mound”.

During the sixties, the population of 1,700 incorporated to avoid annexation by Irving.  Citizens wanted to preserve and protect the extraordinary natural open land and to this day, they are determined to retain a rural character though the community now has a population of 61,550 and growing strong.

The housing boom is largely the result of the reorganizing of the Metroplex after the building of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport just ten minutes up the road.  Over the years, new freeways and transportation routes and subdivisions reaching out from both Dallas and Fort Worth are filling in the gap between the cities.  Residents are attracted to the comparatively low land prices in the rural areas in between them, along with quieter streets, scenic surroundings, and easy access to the amenities of the bigger cities.  That includes an assortment of rich cultural, sporting, recreation, employment, shopping, and services.
